The Soap Jar, established in 2004, is a family owned business located in Gilbert, AZ. Our post office address is Higley, a small historic area within Gilbert. Should you choose to call us, we’re in the Mountain Standard time zone. Living here in the midst of the Sonoran Desert, we are blessed with an abundance of sunshine. Therefore, Arizona does not observe daylight saving time, except on the Navajo reservation, so our time remains constant, year round.
My journey into the fabulous world of handcrafted soap, toiletries and candles began in 1996. I became intrigued with the idea of making my own soap after reading a fascinating article on soapmaking. At that time internet soapmaking communities and suppliers were not as widespread and easily accessed as they are today. Eventually I found the supplies I needed and made my first, glorious batch of lavender soap. I also learned soapmaking is captivating and all consuming. Many newcomers waltz into the soapmaking ball as I did; completely unaware that curing soap, ingredients and other supplies will soon take over their kitchen or dining table, closets and empty spaces throughout their home. Pots simmering on the stove will not be dinner, much to the family’s dismay, but rather various stages of melting oils or waxes, melt & pour or even hot process soap. Objects in the grocery store will be looked at not for the food product it contains but rather whether it will make a suitable soap mold! But I digress…
The Soap Jar supports our handcrafted Artisan community through various efforts and donations to gatherings and organizations. We support our local community as well through financial donations and as volunteers. I was honored to serve two years on the committee for The Arizona Gathering of Soap and Candle Artisans. We’re also mindful of our environment and recycle whenever possible.
